Yes, absolutely, a doula can help to prepare you for what to expect, help with your birth preferences, on the day assist with keeping calm and feeling supported throughout the process. After birth, support with the first feed and what happens in the days to come, is available too.

Do I need to pay in full?

I am happy to arrange payment plans that suit your needs, I am always flexible.

Why do I need a doula if I have a midwife?

A doula can focus on total support for you, physically and emotionally, not just medically. A doula can support you with techniques, in addition to what a midwife has, including hypnobirthing, affirmations, rebozo and positioning.

What difference does having a doula make?

There is evidence that having a doula reduces caesarean rates and instrumental birth, reduces the need for pain relief and shortens labour. Many women say they wished they had known about doulas sooner.

Some people who engage with a doula don’t have a birth partner, most have a partner and a doula.

How do you help after birth?

Support after birth is flexible to what the mother and family needs, it can include processing the birth, support with feeding, talking about newborn behaviour and what is normal, listening to how the mother feels. It can also be preparing lunch, tidying the kitchen, putting a wash on, watching baby whilst the mother naps, or takes a shower, essentially mothering the mother.

When should I book a doula?

Once you have decided, booking as soon as possible is recommended. This will ensure you get a slot, with the doula of your choice, you will benefit from support throughout pregnancy and be able to have longer to build your relationship.

Will my partner feel pushed out?

Not at all, one of the sessions will help your partner to become a better birth partner, ensuring they have tips on practical things to help and support you. They are vital to help you feel safe and cared for. A doula also supports them too, it can be overwhelming and having an experienced support person, who knows them too, is reassuring.
